Shakira told Entertainment Tonight that Gerard, who was playing in the World Cup at the time, told her, “I’m gonna win this World Cup, so I can see you at the finals.”
The two share two children together — Milan, who is nine and Sasha, who is seven.

“We regret to confirm that we are parting ways,” the two said in a joint statement provided to E! News.
“For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy,” the statement read. “Thank you for your understanding.”
