Oh, this y’all, is just the entrance look. And while it may be only one look and one line in a long season of drag and quips (and endlessly long in the case of Season 14), it is perhaps the most important of the season. A drag queen’s entrance into the Werk Room is their introduction to the season (one now often released weeks before the show even airs). It’s the tone setter. It’s our first chance to see what type of queen has arrived to compete. While on the main seasons of Drag Race, we are meeting the queens for the first time, on All Stars we are seeing who they have become since they sashayed away from our televisions. Has their drag gotten better (or, in a few unfortunate situations, gotten worse)? Have they moved in a new direction? Have they solidified their brand? The entrance look can say a lot.
While Drag Race entrances have not always been in today’s format (the early seasons consisted mostly of awkward “hi”s), it is now standard to walk in, say something quippy, and pose while wearing a look that will be burned into the brains of viewers forever.Â
In honor of the arrival of All Stars Season 7, which will showcase eight winners competing for the crown, I’ve decided to rank all 73 of the Werk Room entrances from the All Stars seasons. I am taking into account both their looks and entrance lines, so a strong outfit can make up for a forgettable opening salvo and vice versa. I would also like to say that while I (as a writer) feel highly qualified to judge the quotes here, I know absolutely NOTHING about fashion and so will be relying heavily on my instincts as a bitchy gay to critique those. Feel free to read me for filth in the comments if you disagree with my hot takes.
