Another man has been sentenced for his role in the 2018 fatal overdose of rapper Mac Miller. On Monday, Stephen Andrew Walter, who was responsible for supplying the fatal counterfeit oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl, was sentenced to more than 17 years behind bars.
According to NBC News, Walter was one of the three men charged for Mac’s death, which took place back in September 2018. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California says he pled guilty last year to one count of distribution of fentanyl. As previously reported, prosecutors say, Walter directed Ryan Michael Reavis to distribute the drugs to co-defendant Cameron James Pettit, who then sold the drugs to Mac.
Prosecutors stated that Walter continued to distribute drugs after Mac’s passing. Rolling Stone reports that Walter agreed to a flat 17-year sentence last year, however, because the deal was below federal guidelines, and because he proceeded to sell drugs, the judge decided not to accept his plea deal.
Judge Otis D. Wright, II said,
“The court has elected not to accept that plea agreement. So, sir, if you want, at this point, you can withdraw your guilty plea and go to trial. I may as well lay it out, okay. When you continue to engage in this activity even after your activities killed someone, I’m having a tough time not staying within the guidelines.”
Walter than agreed to getting a higher sentence.
Last month, Ryan Michael Reavis was sentenced to 131-months in prison for his role in distributing the drugs that led to Mac’s overdose. Mac passed away from “mixed drug toxicity” which included cocaine, fentanyl and alcohol.
