In a huge relief to cellular and electronics industry, the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Government of India, has accepted the recommendation of Indian Cellular Association (ICA) to extend the deadline for compulsory registration of electronics products by three months.
DietY has issued a notification to this effect which now covers 30 products, instead of 15 earlier, including mobile handset, mobile adaptors, batteries, chargers and more. The new deadline under Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) for mobile handsets and mobile adaptors is now August 13, 2015 whereas the earlier deadline was to end on May 13.
“It’s a huge relief to the mobile and electronics industry. I appreciate that DeitY acted timely on our request to extend the deadline,” said Mr Pankaj Mohindroo, National President, ICA.
Mr Mohindroo, who had vigorously pursued the matter with DeitY,pointed out that non-extension had the potential to severely disrupt the manufacturing and trade of mobile handsets and related components.
In additional relief, Deity has also granted an additional period of three months for meeting the compulsory labeling requirements of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
While ICA had no objection to compliance with DeitY’s order, it felt that window of time was too short to comply with the time-taking procedures.
Mohindroo had taken up these issues with DeitY, which resulted in successful conclusion with DeitY coming out with new notification on Monday evening, extending the deadline for CRS.
