Stressing on the need to drive agility, Gartner today said that IT decision makers in enterprises will have look to beyond conventional IT to deliver the needs presented by digital businesses. “The focus is now shifting more towards the ecosystem around a product then the product itself. While traditional and sequential IT emphasizes on accuracy, businesses will have to look into a exploratory and nonlinear mode which emphasizes on agility and speed,” said Partha Iyengar, Gartner Vice President and Head of Research – India.
Going forward businesses will need to opt for bimodal IT to ensure more accuracy, agility and confront the needs of digital businesses. “Bimodal IT is the practice of managing two separate, coherent modes of IT delivery, one focused on stability and the other on agility,” said Iyengar.
Bimodal IT should not be consider as shadow IT or an operational model change or agile development. It’s the combination of old style and modern practices which mostly deals with the people who will use the technology.
“While the bimodal journey might be difficult, enterprises need to look at it seriously. They need to start fast. Bimodal includes a flurry of small changes keeping scalability in mind to help deploy it across the enterprise,” added Iyengar.
