“I think it would have been different if it was today.”
Last year, Buffy the Vampire Slayer actor Charisma Carpenter alleged that show’s creator, Joss Whedon, created a “hostile and toxic work environment” on set.
In response, Sarah Michelle Gellar, the show’s lead actor, said on Instagram, “While I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon.”
Recently, Gellar spoke out about other negative experiences that she and her costars had on set.
She also addressed rumors about feuds with costars Alyson Hannigan and David Boreanaz. She said, “Look, we worked really hard hours. We were young, we had ups and downs. Everybody had arguments.”
Gellar said that some onset tensions stemmed from her jealousy over her castmates’ better work/life balance. She said, “I was the one that was always working and sometimes I would be resentful of the fact that they didn’t have to work all the time.”
However, she regrets the way some things went down. She said, “There are times where I wish I could have done things differently, but I didn’t know how to handle the stress that I was under.”
Thankfully, the competition between all of the castmates didn’t last. She said, “I think it would have been different if it was today. It would have been a very different relationship. But we have a great relationship now.”
