Why do you boycott Parliament yet attend committee meetings

The Majority in Parliament has described the boycott of Parliamentary business activities in the Chamber by the Minority Caucus as wrong.

The Majority says although the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legislators have for the fourth time abandoned business activities in the Chamber over the prosecution of James Gyakye Quayson, the Minority has shockingly chosen to partake in committee meetings in Parliament.

Speaking to journalists in Parliament, the Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh says the Minority must be ashamed for choosing which parliamentary duties to partake in.

“The Minority must bury their heads in shame because the decision is very unpopular, and the leadership is divided about it. If you want to boycott Parliament, boycott it in its entirety, don’t pick and choose, you go for committee meetings and yet you say you won’t come to the Chamber.”

He also indicated that it is baffling because the decisions that will be taken at the committee level will eventually be brought to the Chamber for final deliberations.

“At the end of the day, all the deliberations whether it is a referral by the Speaker, a bill, or some agreement, it will eventually be referred to the Chamber for it to be debated or adopted or otherwise and so why will you decide which one you want to part of.”

“The decision to go for committee meetings and not participate in the Chamber is not right, and it is not a principled position.”
