GTA organises 68@68 food fair

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, hosted the 68@68 Food Fair last Friday, at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

The event showcased 68 traditional Ghanaian dishes, highlighting the country’s rich cultural heritage and culinary diversity.

Members of the Traditional Caterers Association, Indigenous Catering Association, Chef Association, Barbecue Association, and Heritage Foods and Drinks prepared and displayed the traditional and contemporary Ghanaian dishes. Stakeholders from Ghana’s tourism and creative arts sector joined the celebration.

The Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, and GTA CEO, Efua Houadjeto, personally inspected and sampled the dishes, demonstrating their support for Ghana’s culinary industry.

The Minister emphasised the significance of the event in promoting domestic tourism, agribusiness, and cultural exchange. Mrs Houadjeto described the Food Fair as showcasing ‘the soul of Ghana.’

A key highlight was the Celebrity Cooking Competition, featuring Uncle Ato, Victoria Lebene, Mr. Beautiful, Joyce Blessing, and Okyeame Kwame. Okyeame Kwame emerged as the winner, with Victoria Lebene taking second place.

A panel of esteemed judges, including GTA CEO Mrs Houadjeto, Prof. Kobby Mensah, CEO of GTDC, Abeiku Aggrey, Deputy CEO of GTA, James Gardner, and Chef Michael Quainoo, evaluated the dishes.

The 68@68 Food Fair supports the Black Star Experience initiative, which aims to position Ghana as the Gateway to Africa by showcasing its rich cultural heritage, vibrant traditions, and warm hospitality.
