According to the report by TV3 GH today, police in the Adentan constituency apprehended three suspected robbers on their way to carry out a planned operation.
The arrest, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, followed a tip-off from vigilant residents who noticed suspicious activity in the area.
According to the Adentan District Police Command, the suspects were intercepted at a checkpoint near the Adentan Barrier.
Their vehicle, a black Toyota Corolla, drew the attention of officers due to its erratic movement. Upon stopping the car, an officer reportedly asked, “What are you doing at this hour?” The suspects’ nervous demeanor and conflicting responses raised suspicion, prompting a search of the vehicle.
The search revealed an assortment of tools commonly used for burglary, including crowbars, pliers, gloves, and face masks. The police also discovered a loaded pistol hidden beneath the driver’s seat.
Chief Inspector Samuel Addo, who led the operation, commended the officers for their vigilance.
“Our men acted swiftly and professionally to prevent what could have been a major crime,” he said during a press briefing.
“We urge the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity, as community collaboration is key to maintaining safety.”
During initial questioning, one of the suspects, identified only as Kojo, tried to deny any wrongdoing.
“We were just driving around,” he claimed, but his explanation was quickly contradicted by the other suspects, who struggled to provide consistent accounts of their movements.
The police have since launched an investigation to determine the suspects’ intended target and whether they are linked to other criminal activities in the area.
“We believe this group may be part of a larger syndicate,” Inspector Addo noted.
“Our investigations will unravel the full extent of their operations.”
Residents in Adentan expressed relief at the swift action taken by the police.
“These criminals have been terrorizing our community for too long,” said Ama Nyarko, a shop owner.
“It’s about time they were caught.”
The suspects are currntly in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court later this week.
The police have assured the public of their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Adentan and beyond.
“Let this serve as a warning to others,” Inspector Addo concluded.
“Crime does not pay, and justice will always catch up with you.”
