Dampare had very good human relations but failed at hardcore security issues – Analyst

Security analyst, Andrews Asiedu Tetteh Security analyst, Andrews Asiedu Tetteh

A security analyst, Andrews Asiedu Tetteh, has given an assessment of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare as Inspector General of Police.

He said one of the things the IGP did that he commends him for is the establishment of the Police TV and the role the television channel played in educating the Ghanaian public.

Andrews Tetteh stated that the IGP had excellent human relations with the public, as well as the reforms he implemented in the service, but he failed in terms of hardcore security.

”One of the things I applaud the IGP for is the establishment of the Police TV. The way they used Police TV to educate people on how to handle cybercrime and other issues was commendable. He had excellent interpersonal relations with the public. The resurgence of some areas, such as the dog department, horses, and others, is positive. However, he fell short when it came to hardcore security. The way people died, the bullion van incident, and how it was handled were all tragic. Some of us suspected police involvement in the incident. So, if you ask me, in terms of hardcore security, the IGP failed.”

He stated that the replacement of the IGP was not surprising because it had been a long time coming.

“The replacement of IGP Dampare with IGP Yohuno is unsurprising. Some of us expected this to happen. The most important thing to remember is that every president would prefer to work with people who are in his good books and share his ideologies, or to appoint those who can help him succeed. We have seen this happen under every regime. So some of us weren’t surprised when the president replaced him.”
