The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has commenced a thorough review of the nomination forms submitted for the upcoming elections to identify any errors or inconsistencies. According to Samuel Tettey, the Deputy EC Chairperson responsible for operations, a number of mistakes have already been discovered since the submission process began.
Tettey noted that individuals whose forms contain errors have already been formally notified by the EC. The commission has instructed these individuals to make the necessary corrections to their forms, as permitted by the law. “We have written to them, highlighting the errors, and they are required to make the necessary corrections. The law permits amendments to be made to any mistakes found in the nomination forms,” he stated.
A common issue that has been identified involves individuals endorsing multiple nomination forms, which violates the EC’s guidelines. This breach is being closely monitored as the EC ensures compliance with all relevant regulations.
As the deadline for submissions draws nearer, Tettey assured that the EC’s operations teams are working diligently, even overnight, to review the remaining forms. Affected candidates will receive official letters outlining the specific errors in their submissions, providing them with the opportunity to correct and resubmit their forms within the required timeframe.
The EC’s careful review process underscores its commitment to ensuring that all nomination forms meet the necessary legal and procedural standards. The commission’s efforts are crucial in ensuring that the election process remains transparent, fair, and in line with the country’s democratic principles.
