Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang offered comfort to a school pupil who was overwhelmed with emotion after learning about the tragic deaths of three military officers in the 1948 Christiansborg Crossroads Shooting.

This moment, which was shared on the Facebook page of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation on Friday, February 28, 2025, showed the vice president consoling the pupil, while one of her classmates dabbed her tearful eyes with a handkerchief.

The incident, a critical moment in Ghana’s struggle for independence, remains a symbol of resistance against colonial rule.

Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe, and Private Odartey Lamptey — former soldiers of the Gold Coast Regiment, who had served in World War II — were marching peacefully to the Osu Castle to demand their rightful compensation from the British colonial administration when they were shot and killed by Superintendent Colin Imray.

Their deaths sparked nationwide protests, intensifying the push for self-rule and galvanizing nationalists, including the Big Six, toward Ghana’s independence in 1957.

The 2025 commemoration of the incident, themed “Reflect, Review, Reset,” aims to honor the sacrifices of these heroes while inspiring future generations.

It also signals the start of activities leading up to Ghana’s Independence Day celebrations on March 6, 2025.
