Suspect arrested over attack on Citi FM journalist granted bail

The Asankragwa District Police has granted bail with surety to Yaw Kurankye, the sole suspect arrested so far in connection with the attack on Citi FM’s Western Regional Correspondent, Akwasi Agyei Annim.

The attack, carried out by illegal miners linked to the Dabena mining company, occurred in the Adomanya Forest within the Wassa Amenfi West District of the Western Region.

Yaw Kurankye, believed to be a member of the family that sold the Adomanya land to the illegal miners, allegedly led the group of galamseyers who violently assaulted Annim and two other journalists on Friday, February 21, 2025.

The journalists were filming in the company of police personnel when the attack happened.

Speaking to Citi News on the suspect’s bail, Chief Inspector Anthony Amponsah, the Station Investigator at the Asankragwa District Police Command, explained that Kurankye could not be held for more than 48 hours without charge.

He added that preparations are underway to arraign him before court while efforts continue to apprehend other suspects still at large.
