Kpadjai, (N/R,) Feb. 21, GNA – Mr Job Kofi Wereko, a farmer at Kpadjai community in the Kpandai District of the Northern Region, has called on agriculture experts to support farmers to improve upon their water harvesting and irrigation systems, as they adapt to climate change impact.
He said that would aid dry season farming all-year round as well as boost food production.
He said climate change was negatively impacting the weather and making the pattern more intense and unpredictable, adding that flash floods have mostly damaged crops thereby affecting productivity.
Mr Wereko made the call when sharing his observation on the impact of climate change on his community in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.

He said change in climatic conditions had led to reduced rainfall, increased temperatures and more frequent droughts, leading to lower crop yields, and food insecurity in the area.
He indicated that lower crop yields had led to reduced income for farmers, thereby negatively impacting their ability for them to meet basic needs and invest in necessary farming practices.
Mr Wereko added that farmers were being forced to migrate to urban areas in search of alternative sources of livelihoods and appealed to the government to come to the aid of farmers through expert support to reverse the trend.
Most farmers in Kpadjai community suffered rain effects last season where large farmlands were either submerged by floods or crops ried up from the beginning of the season because the rains failed schedule.
