Ewurabena Aubynn vows to defend election victory

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, has vowed to take every necessary action to secure her seat in Parliament, insisting that she fairly won the 2024 parliamentary elections in the constituency.

She accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of colluding with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to fabricate pink sheets in an attempt to overturn the results. She also rejected the proposed collation of results using electronic methods.

“Being silent about some things doesn’t mean you are a coward. If, as an elderly person, you have decided to fight, then I am ready to fight this battle as well. I can tell you for a fact that the NPP didn’t provide a single pink sheet for the collation. It will never happen. We are not looking for war but fairness, so do what is right,” she stated.

Ewurabena Aubynn made these remarks during a vigil organized by members and supporters of the NDC on February 9, 2025, to protest the prolonged delay in declaring the constituency’s parliamentary results.

Dressed in black, the protesters gathered at the forecourt of the Kwashieman Chiefs Palace, using the vigil as a platform to express their frustration over the electoral process.

Their protest followed the suspension of the collation process on January 17, 2025. The collation was halted after alleged acts of vandalism linked to the NDC, during which the collation centre at the Greater Accra Regional Office of the Electoral Commission was ransacked.

The EC had scheduled the collation of results for January 17, 2025, but the process was disrupted when over 40 individuals stormed the venue, ordered everyone to leave, and vandalized property, including louvre blades and doors.

Despite the controversies, the EC has maintained its commitment to due process, emphasizing its independence and the need to follow proper electoral procedures before declaring the results.
