I was shocked to see MPs engage in disorder – Emelia Arthur

The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, has expressed her astonishment at the chaotic behavior displayed by some Members of Parliament (MPs) during the vetting proceedings on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

Appearing before the committee investigating the disruptions, Arthur recounted the disorderly scenes she witnessed, criticizing the conduct of certain MPs while commending the professionalism of the committee clerk.

She emphasized the need for decorum in such proceedings, calling for measures to prevent future disruptions.

“I was amazed to see a whole MP carrying a chair and putting it on the table. The next time, I saw pushing tables away. I saw microphones being shifted away,” she stated on Friday, February 7.

Adding “In all of that, what amazed me was the calmness of the clerk. She was so calm, just sitting down, so very professional. I mean, she has class.”
