Traders at the Kejetia Market in the Ashanti Region are sounding the alarm over a looming power disconnection by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) due to a staggering GH¢400,000 debt owed by the market’s management.
According to the traders, the management’s failure to settle the debt has prompted ECG to threaten disconnection, which would bring trading activities to a grinding halt.
The president of the Federation of Kumasi Traders, Nana Prempeh, confirmed the debt in an interview with OTEC News Reporter Jacob Agyenim Boateng on Friday.
Nana Prempeh appealed to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, to intervene and call an emergency stakeholder meeting to resolve the situation and prevent the disconnection.
The traders are anxious to find a solution to avoid disrupting their businesses.
