An Accra Circuit Court has convicted a 36-year-old job seeker for stealing a mobile phone from one of the offices at the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) in Accra.
Foster Nyarko was reported to have entered the office of a Principal Administrator at CHRAJ and stolen her Samsung Galaxy A54 5G mobile phone, valued at GHC 4,999.
Nyarko was apprehended on January 30, 2025, in connection with a similar offence that occurred at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, Ridge.
CCTV footage reportedly exposed Nyarko’s illicit act.
Charged with unlawful entry and stealing, Nyarko pleaded guilty.
The court presided over by Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, convicted Nyarko on his own plea but deferred sentencing to February 27, 2025.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori Appiah, stated that the complainant, Celis-Jane Nyadroh, was a Principal Administrator at CHRAJ headquarters in Accra.
Chief Inspector Appiah added that Nyarko was unemployed and resided in Effiakuma, Takoradi, in the Western Region.
On October 23, 2024, Nyarko approached the front desk managers at CHRAJ, claiming he was following up on his application at the Human Resources Department.
According to the prosecution, Nyarko entered the complainant’s office on the first floor, Room 15, but found it unoccupied. He then stole the complainant’s mobile phone.
On October 24, 2024, the complainant reported the theft to the Ministries Police Station in Accra.
However, Nyarko’s luck ran out on January 30, 2025, when he was apprehended by the management of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.
CCTV footage presented to the Ministries Police by the complainant and her witnesses confirmed Nyarko’s involvement in the crime.
Nyarko was escorted to the crime scene on January 31, 2025, where he admitted to stealing the complainant’s phone and entering her office.
