Volta Regional Minister pledges to revamp tourist sites to boost local economy

The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has reiterated his commitment to revitalizing tourist sites in the region as part of efforts to stimulate the local economy and create job opportunities for the youth.

Speaking during an interview on Channel One TV’s The Point of View with Bernard Avle, Mr. Gunu highlighted the region’s vast tourism potential, emphasizing the need for strategic collaboration to unlock its economic benefits.

He underscored the critical role tourism could play in providing employment for the region’s youth, reducing rural-to-urban migration in search of non-existent jobs.

“The tourism sector, is another priority, a major one, fortunately, in these two sectors Roads and Highways Ministry and Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Ministry], we have the ministers coming from the Volta region, I’m going to collaborate more with them to develop the tourist sites so that we can rake in a lot of revenue, to improve the local economy of the region, create job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youth so that they won’t be travelling or migrating to the capital searching for non-existing jobs, that we are going to do.”

He assured residents that the government would work diligently to ensure the region becomes a premier tourist destination in Ghana.

The Volta Region is home to numerous scenic attractions, including the Wli Waterfalls, Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, and the iconic Mount Afadjato, among others.

However, many of these sites have faced challenges such as poor infrastructure and inadequate investment, limiting their potential to attract tourists.
