Kpeve treatment plant to get new pumps by mid-March

The Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced the procurement of two new pumping equipment for the Kpeve Water Supply Station in the Volta Region.

The move comes as part of efforts to address ongoing water shortages that have affected the Ho township and surrounding areas.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, February 5, GWL’s Communications Director, Stanley Martey, shared insights into the procurement process and the expected timeline for the installation of the new pumps.

According to him, the equipment is anticipated to arrive in the country by mid-March and will be installed within a week upon arrival.

He added that in the interim, GWL is making efforts to address the water shortages by rehabilitating old pumps sourced from other treatment plants.

“Kpeve serves the Ho community and with time, population is increasing and demand is also increasing the pressure on the pumps because they were built in 1993 and so they keep breaking down every now and then and they all broke down at a go and so we ordered in new pumps and that took a bit of time because the procurement process takes a bit of time and so we are hopefully that these new ones get in by the middle of March so that we can fix them within a week.

“In the short time, we are working at fixing the old pumps that we had from other treatment plants and we are praying that they work so that we can start the treatment.”

The recent water shortages have posed challenges to residents of Ho, affecting households, businesses, and institutions.

Many residents have had to rely on alternative sources such as boreholes and water tankers to meet their daily needs. The situation has sparked concerns among community members and local authorities, who have called for urgent intervention to resolve the crisis.

GWL reassured the public that the company is committed to improving water infrastructure and ensuring a reliable water supply to all affected areas. The company urged residents to bear with them as they work to restore normalcy.
