The Minister of State for Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has expressed optimism about the possibility of President John Dramani Mahama increasing the inclusion of members of the Ghanaian diaspora in his administration.
Kwakye Ofosu, during his vetting on Friday, January 31, highlighted the President’s track record of breaking barriers and embracing diversity in governance.
He began his remarks by praising President Mahama’s progressive approach to leadership, describing him as a trailblazer who has consistently shattered societal and political barriers.
According to the Minister-Designate, Mahama’s administration has demonstrated a strong commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that no group or section of society is left behind.
“Given what he has shown so far, I will not be surprised that members of the diaspora who show competence and capacity will find some place in his government. He has broken every glass ceiling there is. There is hardly any section of society that has not found a place in his government.
“So I will not be surprised when that happens except that I am unable to state categorically that that will happen and so I will leave that to the government.”
Kwakye Ofosu pointed to President Mahama’s historic appointment of Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as Vice President, making her the first woman to hold such a position in Ghana’s history.
Additionally, he praised the President’s appointment of an appreciable number of women and individuals from underrepresented groups to key positions, reinforcing his commitment to gender equality and diversity.
Expanding on his point, Kwakye Ofosu highlighted the immense potential of the Ghanaian diaspora to contribute to national development.
He acknowledged the vast pool of skilled professionals and experts living abroad, whose expertise could be instrumental in shaping policies and driving innovation in various sectors.
