Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
President Nana Akufo-Addo is leaving nothing to chance in his quest to help Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia win the upcoming December 7 elections.
In the latest of series of campaign activities, the President met with leadership of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) to not only thank them for the support they gave him and his government for the past eight years, but to convince them to vote for his protégé in the upcoming general election.
At a meeting with the union leaders in Accra yesterday, he made a passionate appeal to Ghanaians, particularly members of Organised Labour, to cast their votes for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia come Saturday, December 7 when the country goes to the polls to elect a president and 276 Members of Parliament (MPs).
The President highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s critical role in shaping key government initiatives and his preparedness to lead the nation into a new era of development.
He credited the Vice President as the originator of pivotal policies such as Agenda 111, which seeks to construct hospitals across all 16 regions of the country.
“Agenda 111 hospitals and other policies like One District One Factory (1D1F) stemmed from innovative minds like Bawumia’s. His contributions go beyond political rhetoric; they reflect a deep understanding of what Ghana needs to progress,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
The President also took the opportunity to draw comparisons between his administration and that of former President John Dramani Mahama.
He critiqued Mahama’s track record, pointing to challenges such as the energy crisis, economic stagnation, and the inability to fulfil key promises during his term.
“We cannot afford to return to an era of sluggish growth and unmet promises. Ghanaians deserve continuity in progress, not a repeat of past failures,” President Akufo-Addo said.
He took the opportunity to highlight Dr. Bawumia’s 16-year journey side by side with him in opposition and government, describing the Vice President as “the most prepared individual” to assume the highest office.
President Akufo-Addo, therefore, urged voters to prioritise Ghana’s future by selecting Bawumia and ensuring a clear parliamentary majority for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He concluded his address with a call for unity and informed decision-making, stating, “On Saturday, let us rise above partisanship and choose the leader who can best steer Ghana through the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Look for the elephant at the top of the ballot paper and vote decisively for progress.”
On behalf of the Organised Labour, the General Secretary of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU), Morgan Ayawine, commended President Akufo-Addo for remembering the contributions of Organised Labour.
He said the President should help whoever would succeed him to continue to cooperate with the labour front even in his retirement.
This brought to an end the President’s three-day tour of the Greater Accra Region, the last of his nationwide ‘Thank You Tour’ that took him to all the 16 regions.
