Former President John Dramani Mahama was left in awe as he received an overwhelming welcome during his six-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region. The event, held on December 1, 2024, saw thousands of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters flooding the streets for the “Enti Asanteman Aseda Ni” walk, which aimed to advocate for a change in government and shift the region’s voting pattern in the upcoming December 7 elections.
The massive turnout at the rally, which ended at the Kumasi Jubilee Park, left Mahama visibly surprised. Addressing the crowd, he expressed his disbelief, saying, “Are we in Kumasi? Am I dreaming? I don’t know if I am dreaming. Somebody should wake me up. Is this Kumasi? Is this Asanteman?” His comments underscored the significance of the event and the energy of the supporters.
Mahama’s campaign in the Ashanti Region began with a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace. After the rally at Jubilee Park, Mahama continued his tour with community engagements and mini-campaign durbars in various constituencies, including Offinso North, Offinso South, Atwima Nwabiagya North, and Atwima Mponua.
The enthusiastic reception in Kumasi highlights the growing support for Mahama and the NDC in a region traditionally known as a stronghold of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
