Election 2024: ‘Ghana will win, peace will triumph’ – Bawumia declares

Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party/, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on all stakeholders in the December 2024 elections to uphold peace, unity, and responsibility as Ghana prepares for its nineth presidential election under the Fourth Republic.

Speaking at the 4th Peace Pact ceremony in Accra, where all 12 presidential candidates pledged their commitment to peaceful elections, Dr. Bawumia reflected on Ghana’s democratic journey since 1992.

He noted that while every election comes with its unique challenges, the country has consistently chosen the path of democracy and proven its resilience.

“Every general election in Ghana, since 1992, had its own dynamics and the stakes are always high, but we have never turned our backs on democracy because that is the path we have chosen for ourselves, and it is the right way to go,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

He emphasized that democracy is not limited to periodic elections but extends to upholding the constitution and the rule of law. Dr. Bawumia expressed optimism that Ghana would once again prove to the world that it remains a beacon of democratic stability in Africa.

“As we head to the December 2024 polls, the 9th presidential election in Ghana nine days from today, I am certain of two outcomes: Ghana will win, and peace will win. We have been here before and can prove again that Ghana is a shining example of a resilient democracy,” he said.

“My plea to everybody involved in the electioneering process is to demonstrate that we are not reluctant democrats. My hope and that of the NPP is that we will come out of this election stronger as a nation. We owe our people, particularly the teeming youth, that duty of care. Only in this way would our resolve to create better and enduring opportunities for the future generations be guaranteed, ” he added.

Dr. Bawumia assured his full commitment to adhering to the rules of the electoral process and collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure peaceful elections.

“Eyes are on Ghana; the world is watching, hoping Ghana will rise again to the occasion, stand tall, and shine bright as the star of Africa.”

The Peace Pact ceremony, organized by the National Peace Council is a crucial event aimed at promoting unity and trust among the presidential candidates and reinforcing Ghana’s reputation as a model of democratic governance in Africa.
