Self-Reliance Key To Ghana’s Progress

By Vivian Amoah

Dr. Daniel Augustus Lartey, the 2000 presidential candidate of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), emphasised the need for Ghana to focus on domestication and self-reliance during the Presidential Encounter at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) on Tuesday, November 26th, 2024. He highlighted that Ghana’s progress is hindered by its inability to produce and provide for itself, recalling the 1970s when Ghana successfully exported maize.

Dr. Lartey stressed the importance of discipline, which is often lacking due to economic struggles. He emphasised that the solution lies in becoming self-reliant, focusing on domestication, empowering farmers, and promoting sustainable practices. This, he believes, will ensure food security, reduce inflation, and create a brighter future for Ghanaians.

As part of his plan, Dr. Lartey pledged to make self-reliance a top priority, implementing initiatives to boost agriculture and domestic production within the first three months of taking office. He also promised to provide farmers with necessary tools, resources, and access to credit.

Dr. Lartey’s commitment to domestication was rooted in his experience as a businessman and politician.

He established several businesses in Ghana, including a publishing company and a printing press, and served as a special adviser to the National Redemption Council government in 1972.
