The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned the alleged kidnapping of Sylvia Patience Baah, the Airport Services Manager of Emirates Airlines in Accra, by operatives of the National Security Secretariat and the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).
According to reports, Baah was abducted at the entrance to her residence in Accra on November 21, 2024. She was blindfolded, handcuffed, and bundled into an unknown vehicle by a team of operatives from the National Security and the NIB.
She was reportedly manhandled and subjected to a harrowing ordeal, being driven for over two hours to an unknown location. She was detained for nearly 24 hours, threatened, and subsequently abandoned in a bush close to Ashaiman.
However, the Ministry of National Security, in a statement issued on Monday, November 25, categorically denied any involvement by its officers or those of the National Intelligence Bureau in the alleged abduction.
The Ministry of National Security added that it has since launched an investigation into the incident and assured the public that any individuals found responsible for the abduction will face the full consequences of the law.
The statement called on the public to disregard the claims made in the Herald Newspaper and treat the allegations with the necessary scepticism.
But the NDC, in a statement issued on Wednesday, November 17, linked the abduction to three individuals: Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the Director General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB); Benjamin Ansah, Operations Director of the NSB; and Rashida Saani Nasamu, described as a ‘powerful waakye seller.’
According to the party, these individuals were said to have had an altercation with Baah in the line of her professional duties, and her subsequent abduction was seen as an act of retribution.
The NDC described the incident as the abuse and misuse of power under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government.
It therefore condemned the impunity and lawlessness exhibited by the operatives and called for immediate action, urging the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to expedite investigations into the matter.
The party demands impartial and transparent investigations leading to the arrest and prosecution of all persons involved in the incident to serve as a deterrent to others.
As the December elections approach, the NDC has urged Ghanaians to vote for change, bringing back into office H.E. John Dramani Mahama and the NDC. They believe this change will restore social justice, the rule of law, and trust in law enforcement agencies, ensuring the safety and security of all Ghanaians.
