Gomoa East MP petitions OSP over alleged plot to rig Dec polls

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, Desmond Degraft Paitoo, has formally petitioned the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to investigate allegations of bribery involving Electoral Commission officials, who were reportedly heard in a leaked audio discussing plans with NPP parliamentary candidate Kojo Asemenyi to manipulate the 2024 elections in his favour.

“What my client is seeking from the Office of the Special Prosecutor is quite simple. There are two individuals here, Mr Asemanyi the private individual who is participating in the upcoming election and Abdulai Isahaku, who is an officer with the Electoral Commission.

“As a public officer, he has engaged in the act of corruption tailored towards tilting and changing the will of the people in favour of a private person that is Mr Asemanyi. The laws are clear and straightforward as far as the special prosecutor is concerned, especially related to election matters.

“We believe that crime has been committed, and it lies within the mandate of the OSP to investigate and prosecute these two,” he stated.

In a letter sighted by Citi News, the Gomoa East MP wants the Special Prosecutor to investigate the matter and have the EC officials dealt with according to the laws.

It also wants the EC officials to recuse themselves from representing the Electoral Commission in an official capacity in Gomoa East since they have been compromised.

Lawyer for the incumbent MP Aggrey Flynn Amissah said they have also petitioned the chairperson of the Electoral Commission Jean Mensa to deal with the matter.
