Questioning Kufuor’s support for Bawumia is the height of impunity – Hackman to Alan

The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Council of Elders, Hackman Owusu Agyeman, has issued a strong rebuke to Movement for Change presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen over his remarks about former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s endorsement of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Mr Kufuor called on Ghanaians to support NPP flagbearer, Dr Bawumia in the December 7 general elections, describing him as the most suitable candidate to lead the nation.

The former President emphasised that, given the current global circumstances, he believes Bawumia’s presidency could significantly improve Ghana’s economy.

But the Movement for Change leader criticised former President Kufuor for openly supporting Dr Bawumia, arguing that such endorsements compromise the neutrality expected of a statesman of Kufuor’s stature.

Speaking on Oyerepa TV, he suggested that the former president’s actions risk tarnishing his political legacy.

However, Mr Owusu Agyeman speaking in an interview on JoyNews’ PM Express on Monday while discussing how the NPP will break the eight, did not hold back when reacting to the one-time presidential choice of former President Kufour in 2007.

He described Mr Kyerematen’s comments as disrespectful.

“For me, it is the height of impunity to ask what Bawumia has done and why Kufuor is supporting him. It was rude,” Mr Owusu Agyeman said.

He added that former President Kufuor has done more for Alan Kyerematen than any other member of the NPP.
