GFP still campaigning for votes for Akua Donkor despite EC’s directive – Roman Fada

Philip Kwabena Agyeman, popularly known as Roman Fada, the running mate of the late Akua Donkor in the 2024 elections, has revealed that he is still actively campaigning to solicit votes for the deceased flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP).

Roman Fada stated that despite the Electoral Commission’s (EC) directive that votes cast for Akua Donkor would be declared invalid, he remains undeterred and is committed to honouring her legacy.

In an interview on Oyerepa TV on November 23, 2024, he stated, “Akua Donkor is still on the ballot, and I will vote for her. I am still campaigning for her, even though they have said that votes for her won’t be counted. I will still vote for her to honour and thank her because she has done a lot for me. In terms of political fame, she brought me to a certain level.”

Roman Fada emphasised that his aim in voting for Akua Donkor is to show appreciation for the opportunities she provided him in the political sphere.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission of Ghana has reiterated that despite Akua Donkor appearing on the 2024 presidential election ballot paper, votes cast for her will be classified as rejected ballots.

The EC clarified that votes for Akua Donkor would not be included in the total valid votes cast.

Following her death, the EC gave the GFP the opportunity to present a new candidate. However, her running mate, who filed his forms to contest the election, was disqualified due to anomalies identified in his nomination forms.

Despite this, the EC decided to maintain the positions of the political parties on the ballot paper, including Akua Donkor’s name.
