Air Commodore David Akrong, Deputy Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peace Training Centre (KAIPTC), has reiterated the institution’s dedication to curbing electoral fraud, voter intimidation, and vote-buying as Ghana approaches the 2024 general elections.
Speaking at a training programme organized by KAIPTC in Kumasi on November 25, under the theme “Ghana’s 2024 Elections: Enhancing the Capacity of Women and Youth in Elections,” Air Cdre Akrong highlighted the Centre’s proactive initiatives.
He explained that KAIPTC is equipping women and youth as election observers to help uphold the credibility and transparency of the electoral process.
The training forms part of broader efforts to ensure a peaceful and fair election while empowering underrepresented groups to play active roles in democratic governance.
“It is important to know that election observers play a vital role in detecting and preventing election fraud, such as ballot stuffing, and voter intimidation. By reporting irregulates and inconsistencies we can help ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
Your role as an impartial observer is crucial to ensuring the credibility and legitimacy of the electoral process. failure to maintain impartiality can lead to the erosion of democratic norms and social rest.”
