The owner of Rahama Forex Bureau LTD, Mr. Samuel Addai, has shared a gripping firsthand account of an attempted robbery at his establishment earlier today.
In what could have been a disastrous incident, quick thinking and sheer luck left the suspects fleeing the scene empty-handed.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the incident, Mr. Addai detailed the events leading up to the attempted heist.
“It all happened so fast,” he began. “I noticed two men acting suspiciously outside the bureau around midday. They pretended to be customers but kept whispering to each other. Before we knew it, they stormed inside, brandishing weapons and demanding money.”
According to Mr. Addai, the suspects attempted to intimidate the staff and customers present. However, their plans took an unexpected turn when one of the workers raised the alarm.
“I was scared, but I stayed calm,” he recounted. “One of my employees screamed for help, which startled them. That’s when they panicked and tried to grab what they could. But fortunately, they didn’t manage to open the cash drawer.”
The commotion drew the attention of passersby, who gathered outside the bureau. Sensing that they might get cornered, the suspects abandoned their attempt and fled the scene.
“They left empty-handed,” Mr. Addai emphasized. “Not a single cedi was taken from the bureau.”
The police were called immediately after the incident, and a team arrived promptly to secure the area and gather evidence. Authorities have since launched a manhunt for the suspects, with preliminary descriptions provided by witnesses.
The failed robbery attempt has sparked conversations about the growing need for enhanced security at financial establishments.
“Forex bureaus are becoming easy targets for criminals,” Mr. Addai said. “We need better surveillance systems and perhaps even police patrols in areas with high foot traffic.”
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
“Thanks to the courage of the staff and the swift reaction of bystanders, this incident ended without loss,” said a police spokesperson. “We are committed to tracking down the perpetrators and ensuring justice is served.”
As for Mr. Addai, he remains thankful that no one was harmed.
“We are grateful to God,” he said. “It could have been worse, but we are safe, and that’s what matters most.”
