My works will help me retain Ashaiman seat – Ernest Norgbey

By Laudia Sawer

Ashaiman, Nov. 22, GNA – Mr. Ernest Henry Norgbey, the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman and the parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Election 2024, has expressed confidence that his work will help him retain the seat for his party.

Mr. Norgbey, who is seeking a third term to represent the residents in parliament, is being contested by three other people.

The purchasing and supply professional said this during the parliamentary candidates’ dialogue organised by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).

He noted that he has led the transformation of various sectors of the constituency in his two terms and therefore deserved to be retained to continue his good works.

According to him, when he became MP, the standard of education in Ashaiman was very low, saying he put in measures such as the MP’s annual mock, which helps the students practice ahead of their external exams, raising their standard.

He further said he facilitated the upgrading of the Ashaiman Senior High School’s day status to boarding, adding that, he also built a three-bedroom bungalow to accommodate the Municipal Education Director.

Touching on health, the incumbent MP revealed that he revived a number of the Community Health and Planning Services (CHPS), and provided a maternity block at Community 22 Polyclinic, and the construction of a dialysis centre at the Ashaiman Polyclinic was ongoing.

On job creation wise, he said he had provided free skill training for over 3000 youth in the area, indicating that start-up kits had also been provided to ensure that they could set up, work, and employ others.

He gave the assurance that when the NDC comes into government, he would lead the youth to benefit from the party’s proposed 24-hour economy programme, which seeks to create more jobs through the shift working system.

Answering questions from people with disabilities (PWDs) on getting access to markets in the area to trade, he said he was already providing help for them through the provision of white canes and wheelchairs to some of them.

Mr. Norgbey gave the assurance that he would create a disability desk to take care of their needs and liaise with the municipal assembly to reserve some market stalls for them.

According to him, the NDC has demonstrated its commitment to addressing welfare issues of PWDs through many initiatives, including employing them to man toll booths in the country when in power.

He urged the electorates to vote massively for the NDC to ensure that the area received the needed development.
