During a recent business trip to the United States, Franklin Cudjoe, the founding president of the IMANI Center for Policy and Education Think Tank, gave an interview to the BBC. Franklin Cudjoe discussed former President John Dramani Mahama and Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, his opponent in the 2024 elections, in his response.

John Dramani Mahama was a great communicator, according to Franklin Cudjoe, yet throughout his government, Ghanaians had widespread power outages, or dumsor. He added that John Dramani Mahama’s tenure was marred by corruption scandals to the point where a UK court looked into him and discovered that Airbus was using bribes to get military aircraft contracts in Ghana. “He was however, vindicated by the office of the special prosecutor” according to him.

According to Franklin Cudjoe, corruption in Ghana worsened under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Under Mahama, the average Corruption Perception Index score was 45.8, while under Akufo Addo, it was 42.
