In a powerful example of how digitalisation is making a tangible difference in the lives of Ghanaians, Hon Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Member of Parliament(MP) for Ablekuma West, shared a heartwarming story of how technology helped save a young farmer’s life.
Speaking in an interview with Kwame Adinkra on Pure FM, monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Ursula recounted a life-threatening incident that showcased the immense potential of digital services in rural communities.
The story begins when a young man working on his farm in a remote area is bitten by a snake. Ursula explained that the closest hospital was located miles away in Effiduase Sekyere Efiis Ejisu, raising the grim possibility that the young man might not survive the long journey before receiving medical care.
“The family contacted a drone delivery service,” Ursula said, recalling the remarkable turn of events. “Within 30 minutes, the drone arrived with the snake antivenom and other necessary medications. The serum was administered on time, and the young man was stabilised.”
The story, which Ursula learned directly from the queen mother of the town, illustrates the critical role that digital innovations like drone delivery services can play in life-or-death situations. This advancement, part of the NPP government’s broader digitalisation agenda, has the potential to transform healthcare access, especially in underserved rural communities.
Ursula emphasised that such real-world examples are key to helping Ghanaians better understand and appreciate the benefits of digitalisation. “This incident is proof of how technology is changing lives, especially in rural areas where access to immediate medical care has often been a challenge,” she explained.
