Two Armed Robbers Killed In Late-Night Attempted Robbery In Accra City

As written by mynewsgh today, two armed robbers were fatally shot during a late-night robbery attempt at a retail shop in the Kaneshie area of Accra on Thursday night.

The incident, which occurred around 11:00 p.m., has left residents shaken while highlighting concerns about rising criminal activities in the capital.

According to eyewitness accounts, the two robbers, both armed with pistols, stormed the shop just as it was closing.

They forced their way in, threatening the shop owner and a handful of customers who were still inside. Demanding cash and valuables, the robbers appeared confident until the shop owner discreetly triggered a silent alarm system linked to a nearby police patrol unit.

Police officers arrived at the scene within minutes and engaged the robbers in a heated confrontation.

Despite being outnumbered, the robbers opened fire on the officers in a desperate bid to escape. A shootout ensued, ending with both suspects being fatally wounded.

One of the shop’s customers, who was unharmed, described the terrifying ordeal.

“They pointed a gun at me and asked for my phone. I thought I wouldn’t make it out alive, but the police came just in time,” she said.

The suspects were rushed to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for medical attention but were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for further examination.

The Accra Regional Police Command has launched an investigation to determine the identities of the suspects and their potential involvement in other crimes.

Preliminary findings indicate that one of the suspects was linked to a series of armed robberies reported in Accra over the past month.

In a press briefing, Inspector Kwesi Ofori confirmed the recovery of two pistols, ammunition, a knife, and cash believed to have been stolen in previous crimes.

He further commended the police officers for their prompt response and assured residents of heightened patrols to deter criminal activities.
