Former First Lady, Lordina Mahama has paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III at the Manhyia Palace.
This visit of the wife of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate, John Mahama was to notify the royal family of her campaign in Asanteman ahead of the December 7 election.
It was also to seek their blessings for her husband with about 22 days to the election.
“As we all know, my husband, your son, John Mahama, is contesting for the presidency in December.
“I always feel at home every time I visit Manhyia, as Asantehemaa has been like a mother to me,” she noted, emphasising the importance of seeking blessings from the royal family before engaging with stakeholders in the Ashanti Region,” she said.
The Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III expressed happiness for the visit and offered prayers for God’s guidance in the forthcoming elections.
She acknowledged the competitive nature of the electoral process but expressed hope Ghana will elect the right leader.
Mrs Mahama subsequently held a closed-door meeting with the Asantehene to also seek his blessings and permission.
Mrs Mahama was accompanied by the NDC Regional Chairman, Nana Kwasi Andrew; the former Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Mrs Betty Mould Iddrisu; the Deputy Director of Communications, Obuobia Darko-Opoku; the former Deputy Defence Minister, Kenneth Adjei; members of the regional women’s wing; and parliamentary candidates from the Ashanti region.
