NDC only ‘attacks’ the court when things don’t go in their favour

Lawuratu Musah-Saaka, a communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for what she describes as double standards whenever issues or rulings do not favour them.

According to her, the NDC has a reputation for undermining institutions and attacking their credibility when decisions are not in their favour.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, November 13 2024, Musah-Saaka cited instances where the NDC launched scathing attacks against the Electoral Commission and, more recently, the Supreme Court.

She added that the NDC only praises these institutions when their rulings or decisions align with their interests.

“The modus operandi of the NDC is that once nothing goes in their favour, the institution is not good; but when it’s in their favour, they say the judiciary is good. They antagonised the EC, wrote all kinds of things and accused the EC of many things. They said they had 250 errors but couldn’t even present five.

“They antagonised the EC after a week when the EC said it would make available the provisional register in two weeks, and they have spent more time responding to the NDC. That is what we want the ordinary Ghanaian to know – that it’s about this nation and the laws put in place to govern this nation,” she said.

Her comments follow the Supreme Court’s 5-2 majority ruling on November 12, 2024, which overturned Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four vacant seats in Parliament, deeming it unconstitutional.
