2025 AFCON Qualifiers: Black Stars winless run is not normal

Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, believes the Black Stars’ winless run in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers is not normal.

The senior national team currently sits third in Group F with just two points out of a possible 12 after four games.

Reflecting on the team’s poor start, Asante Twum said the Black Stars’ winless run is not normal and further added that it is worrying.

“It is not normal for the Black Stars to play four matches without a win,” he told Asempa FM, as monitored by Ghanasoccernet.com.

“It is very worrying as a country and for the playing body, but I know the technical team and the players are determined to do their best in the last two games,” he added.

Ghana opened their qualifiers with a 1-0 defeat against Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium before a 1-1 draw against Niger in Berkane.

In a doubleheader against Sudan, the Black Stars played to a goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium before losing 2-0 in the return leg in Libya.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars will wrap up their qualifiers with a game against Angola on November 15 at the Estádio 11 de Novembro, before their final match against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium.

To qualify, they must win the games and hope Sudan loses their final games against Niger and Angola.

The Black Stars will wrap up their training session later today before jetting off to Luanda on Wednesday.
