Daniel Asiedu, the lead suspect in the murder of the late Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, has revealed how he got the name Sexy Don Don, which he is popularly referred to, especially in the media space.

According to him, he did not personally take that name. However, it was given to him by the current Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Akuffo Dampare, who, at the time of his arrest, was the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander.

He told an Accra High Court on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, that his nickname was rather ‘Gucci Young Star’.

Daniel Asiedu, in his previous appearance in court, alleged that police officers coerced him into admitting to the crime.

Testifying to his own defence in the ongoing jury trial on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, Asiedu, led by his lawyer, told an Accra High Court presided by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo that he was detained, assaulted and forced to sign a statement admitting to the crime after he had reported earlier to the Accra Regional Police Command to file a complaint.

Reiterating his earlier testimony to the court, Sexy Don Don said he was nowhere near the crime scene on the night of the murder but was around Agbogloshie, where he had engaged the service of a prostitute.

He said that following an alleged threat by a pimp, he sought to file a police complaint but was advised against it by one Adotey, whom he later found out to be a police informant.

“My lady, it was at dawn when I went to the police regional headquarters to lodge a complaint against some people who had come to where I had gone to patronize the services of a prostitute. So, when I was about reporting the matter to the police, the one I went with asked me to wait for him at the counter back whilst he went up to see the commander of the station. So, while standing in front of the counter, the gentleman I went with came back with the police officer. I did not make my complaint at the time, but they told me the commander wanted to see me,” he stated.

He said Adotey was the one who led him to the police station where he was detained and violently assaulted by one DSP Sarpong on the supervision of the current Inspector General of Police – then Accra Police Commander, Dr George Akuffo Dampare and witnessed by Effia Tenge.

“When the then-commander Dampare called for me when I got there, he gave me a seat. He asked about my health, and I answered him. Then he asked again why I was here, then I told him that someone had broken into our room and I was here to report the matter to the police. Then he told me that he wanted to ask me a question… Then he showed me a picture on his phone and asked whether I knew the person; I answered no, I do not know him. Then he asked DS Sarpong to take me to their washroom, then I asked what the matter was,” the suspect said.

Sexy Don Don is facing charges of murder and robbery for the gruesome death of JB Danquah-Adu on February 8, 2016.

He had signed a police statement in which he admitted to the crime and alluded to being hired by some politicians to murder the MP.
