Black Stars captain Andre Ayew celebrated his former teammate Bafetimbi Gomis, who announced his retirement earlier this week.
In an Instagram post, the former West Ham player, who played alongside Gomis in the 2015/2016 season, was full of praise for the former Marseille striker while also celebrating him on his retirement.
“Today, a page turns for my brother. Happy retirement to you, my friend! We shared unforgettable moments, on and off the pitch. Thank you for all the memories, battles, and inspiration and support.
“This is not the end, just the beginning of a new adventure! We are together Lion, Bafetimbi Gomis,” Ayew posted on Instagram alongside a picture of him and Gomis.
In the 2015/2016 season, the two players helped Swansea finish 12th in the Premier League while scoring 18 goals.
Their partnership on the pitch developed into a relationship off the pitch and both have become friends since.
At 39 and now retired, Gomis, who announced the news on French Television, boasts of playing in the UEFA Champions League, having stints with giants like Marseille, Lyon, and Galatasaray while also making 12 appearances for the France national team, scoring three goals in the process.
Andre Ayew, however, still plays active football as he has a contract with Ligue 1’s Le Havre but has been left out of Otto Addo’s Black Stars squad for the upcoming international games.
