Christians and Muslims gathered in a Roman Catholic Church in support of Bawumia
There was a beautiful spectre Sunday morning in Atimatim, a town in Afigya Kwabre East Constituency of the Ashanti Region, when Christians and Muslims gathered in the town’s Roman Catholic Church, and united in support of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s Presidential bid.
As part of his usual engaments with community stakeholders during his campaign tours, Dr. Bawumia engaged stakeholder of the Kwabre East Constituency Sunday morning, with traditional rulers, the Clergy, opinion leaders and members of the Zongo community, made up of Zongo Chiefs and Imams of the Constituency present.
Incidentally, the venue, on a Sunday morning, turned out to be the Roman Catholic Church of the community, and having a number of Imams in there, together with their Christian colleagues, during the Church’s Sunday service, reflected the beautiful diversity and religious tolerance of Ghanaians.
Indeed, various speakers, including the Pastors, traditional rulers and the Imams, reflected on this beautiful spectre, describing it as unique.
“This is beautiful. To have Muslims and Imams in a Church building discussing national issues is so refreshing. This cannot happen in so many countries,” said a traditional ruler who spoke.
An Imam, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, also underlined the beauty of the day, having Imams right inside the Church, observing Church proceedings before listening to Dr. Bawumia.
Dr. Bawumia himself was marvelled by the remarkable display of diversity, praising the the unity between Muslims and Christians in Ghana as one of the pillars of Ghana’s peace.
“There is peace and understanding between Muslims and Christians in Ghana and it is one of the reasons we have peace,” Dr. Bawumia said.
“It is so beautiful to see Imams here in this Chapel. This reflects our mutual understanding and respect for each other. You will hardly see this anywhere in the world but this is happening in Ghana one.”
“Let us continue to leave in harmony and continue to respect one another,” Dr. Bawumia urged.”
Remarkably, all three key stakeholders, the traditional leaders, the Clergy and the Imams, who spoke, commended Dr. Bawumia’s character as a person, his impact as Vice President and his vision for the country, throwing their support behind him to be elected the next President of Ghana.
Both the Clergy and the Imams also prayed for him, for God to grant him immense favour.
