AFCON 2025 QUALIFIERS: Change of Decision-Otto Addo snubs Kudus Mohammed & confirm Jordan Ayew as Ghana new captain

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has confirmed that Jordan Ayew will captain the national team during the November international window, ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.

Ayew’s appointment comes after the exclusion of the usual captain, Andre Ayew, and vice-captain Thomas Partey from the squad, which was announced earlier in the afternoon.

Kudus Mohammed served as captain during the previous international window when Ghana faced Sudan in a doubleheader, but Jordan Ayew, the longest-serving and most experienced player in the current squad, will lead the team this time around.

The four-time African champions are preparing for their final two qualifiers, though their chances of qualification remain slim. Ghana currently sits third in Group F with just two points from four matches, having lost twice and drawn twice, trailing behind Sudan and leaders Angola.

The Black Stars will face Angola on Friday, November 15, in Luanda, before returning home to Accra to play Niger on Monday, November 18, in their final group match.
