A prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) figure, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has faced backlash from Ghanaians on social media following his recent post about the ongoing US elections.
Gabby highlighted parallels between the US election and Ghana’s upcoming presidential race, noting the similarities in candidate dynamics.
Vice President Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party is vying to succeed President Joe Biden — a scenario that resembles Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also running for president in the December elections.
Kamala Harris’s opponent, former President Donald Trump, is attempting to reclaim the presidency, much like Ghana’s former President John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate.
In his post, Gabby shared his observation on a first-time American voter’s preference for Kamala Harris as a symbol of change over Trump.
“I just listened to this first-time American voter on CNN live and when she was asked how she voted, she answered, ‘I voted for change… I voted for Kamala Harris!’ For her, Trump, who is seeking a delayed second term, does not represent change! A very interesting perspective,” Gabby wrote on November 5, 2024.
However, his tweet sparked online ridicule, with critics mocking him for backing a ‘losing’ candidate. Some suggested that Kamala Harris’s predicted loss mirrors what they believe will be Dr. Bawumia’s outcome in Ghana’s election.
Though the US election results are yet to be officially confirmed, Donald Trump is currently projected to be the winner.

All Vice Presidents who ask us to vote for them to do the things they should have currently been doing will face the same outcome on the day of reckoning. You can fool some of the people, some of the time. But you cannot fool all the people all of the time

The United States story is far different from the one you’re trying so hard to draw the difference with. Your guys in GH are utterly corrupt and you’re also a beneficiary. Vote Wisely folks!

Kamala will lose and nothing will prevent her defeat. Same thing will happen to your party in December. We’re massively kicking y’all out.
