South Tongu NCCE and IPDC collaborate for peaceful elections

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) in the South Tongu District have taken a significant step towards promoting peaceful elections in the district.

On Sunday, 3rd November 2024, the NCCE district director, Seth Fiagorme, led a team to engage with churches in Tefle, including The Church of Pentecost, The Presbyterian Church of Ghana, and Global Evangelical Church.

This initiative aims to educate the public on the negative effects of money in politics and promote violence-free elections, among other objectives.

In his address at The Church of Pentecost, Seth Fiagorme stated that Ghana’s democracy has been relatively stable due to our collective efforts, and there is an urgent need for us to contribute to its sustenance.

He emphasized that the 2024 general elections are yet another test case for us, and our conduct as citizens before, during, and after the elections is crucial in demonstrating to the world our understanding of multi-party democracy.

Seth Fiagorme further stressed that to advance our democracy and ensure that the election is conducted in a free and transparent manner, we must desist from election-related violence, misinformation, and disinformation.

He urged the youth to verify sources of news items to ensure they are credible and factual before posting them online, noting that it is a criminal offense to post and circulate fake news.

Seth Fiagorme emphasised that the IPDC and NCCE are working together to ensure peace before, during, and after the elections.

Ben Agbeyesro, a youth representative on the committee, addressed the congregation at the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, urging the youth not to engage in any violent acts during and after the elections.

He advised them to avoid election-related offenses such as selling their votes, bribery, impersonation, and undue influence, and not to allow themselves to be used by any political party to foment trouble.
