The Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been accused of hypocrisy over its stance on peace ahead of the December 7 elections.
While former President John Mahama attended a National Peace Council meeting to advocate for peace in the coming elections, his party was simultaneously involved in launching the notorious Azorka Boys in the Ashanti Region.
This move has raised questions about the NDC’s genuine commitment to peace and stability.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) vice presidential candidate, represented Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the Peace Council meeting.
Meanwhile, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, an aide to former President John Mahama, criticized Dr Bawumia for not attending the meeting himself, sparking accusations of hypocrisy.
The Azorka Boys’ Kumasi launch was reportedly sanctioned by former President John Mahama, casting doubt on his sincerity about peace.
The security agencies foiled the launch, preventing potential violence in the Ashanti Region.
Critics argue that the NDC prioritizes winning power over peace, regardless of the cost of lives lost.
This development follows previous concerns about the NDC’s stance on peace.
The NDC Professionals Forum has accused the NPP of twisting the opposition’s stance on the Peace Council’s peace pact request.
However, the NPP maintains that the NDC has a history of violence and intimidation.
