Diakalidia Konate, Executive Secretary of the Commission for Nationale Frontiere
The Executive Secretary of the Commission for Nationale Frontiere, Diakalidia Konate, has outlined plans for the reaffirmation of the Ghana-Côte d’Ivoire land border.
At a joint technical meeting held on Monday, November 4, 2024, he pointed out the importance of the discussions.
“The objective of this particular meeting is to look at how we can quickly conduct the reaffirmation of the land boundary between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. One of our objectives has to do with the implementation of the ruling that we are still waiting to ensure that the ruling is implemented to the latter. In this particular meeting, we are going to validate certain framework documents which will be enhancing and helping us to activities that we talked about,” he noted.
Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire have agreed to abide by and implement the decision of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) regarding their longstanding maritime boundary dispute.
The two countries are currently engaged in high-level discussions to ratify a framework agreement that will address both land and maritime boundary issues, which have been a source of contention for years.
