A tragic accident on the Owabi River in the Ashanti Region has claimed four lives, with a 5-year-old girl, Doreen Yasan, still missing.

Hon. Bobie Ansah, the Presiding Member for the Atwima Nwabiagya North District, reported that Doreen has been missing for over 12 hours after the vehicle she was in veered off the Dabaa-Akropong road and plunged into the river.

The incident occurred when the private Toyota Vitz car, carrying the driver and several passengers, lost control and entered the swollen river due to recent heavy rains.

The deceased include the driver, her two daughters, a plumber, and a teacher from Akropong Roman Catholic Basic School.

A combined rescue team from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Fire Service, and Police worked tirelessly to recover four bodies from the river on Tuesday morning.

Speaking on the Nyansapo Show with Captain Koda on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, Hon. Bobie Ansah mentioned that local chiefs are collaborating with authorities in the search for the missing girl.

The community remains in shock, raising concerns about the safety of the river and surrounding roads.

The search for Doreen Yasan continues, with hopes of finding her safe and reuniting her with her family.
