Bawumia Is My Ideal Successor – Nana

Nana Akufo-Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo has formally endorsed his Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as his preferred successor in the upcoming 2024 elections.

According to him, Dr. Bawumia, who is the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate for this year’s election, possesses the qualities needed to elevate Ghana to an advanced level.

Speaking during his tour of the Ahafo Region yesterday, the President expressed his confidence in Bawumia’s ability and urged Ghanaians to rally behind him.

“As I am about to leave, I have one plea,” President Akufo-Addo said.

“As you all know, if every president is about to leave office, he cares about who is succeeding him. My plea is that the only person who can continue the work I have done and move Ghana forward and take Ghana to the advanced stage, I believe it is my Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he asserted.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s experience and dedication, stating, “I can vouch for his capabilities and his ability to lead the country, and I will not leave Ghana for someone who can’t do the job. God will not allow that to happen.”

He also reflected on his long-standing political partnership with the NPP presidential candidate, tracing their journey back to the 2008 elections.

“Dr. Bawumia was the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana when I brought him into politics. When I first picked him in 2008, even though we lost the polls, I kept faith with him for the 2012 election, which we also lost.

“But God being so good, we won the 2016 election, and I have not seen any bad thing from him since I first met him,” the President stated.

President Akufo-Addo underscored his resolve to safeguard Ghana’s future, emphasising the need for continuity under a capable leader.

He said Dr. Bawumia stands out as the ideal leader to steer Ghana’s development, due to his unwavering dedication and impressive track record.

According to the President, Vice President Bawumia’s expertise and experience make him a more suitable choice than John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate.

President Akufo-Addo criticised Mr. Mahama’s track record, arguing that his presidency from 2012 to 2016 revealed shortcomings in leadership and economic management.

Mr. Mahama’s presidency, the President noted, was marred by significant challenges, exposing his inability to drive growth and ensure stability in Ghana.

President Akufo-Addo urged residents of the Ahafo Region to unite and support Dr. Bawumia’s vision for Ghana’s continued development and advancement.

“As I am about to leave, I have one plea as you all know: if every president is about to leave office, he cares about who is succeeding him.

“My plea is that the only person who can continue the work I have done and move Ghana forward and take Ghana to the advanced stage, I believe it is my Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he stressed.

“And this is my plea that you people should support Dr. Bawumia to be elected as the next president of this country,” he added.
