According to a news report by Ghanaweb, in a striking revelation, Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi, the Member of Parliament for Subin, has claimed that President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo now regrets his decision not to dismiss former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta amid growing calls for his removal by NPP MPs. This statement comes at a time when the government grapples with significant economic challenges, which Antwi attributes directly to Ofori-Atta’s leadership during his tenure.
In a recent media interview, Antwi did not hold back in expressing his views on the economic difficulties facing the nation. He asserted that the financial strife currently affecting Ghanaians is largely the result of the policies and decisions made under Ofori-Atta’s stewardship. “The reality is that the economic challenges we face today stem from his leadership,” he stated, underscoring the mounting frustration among party members regarding the former minister’s performance.
Antwi’s comments reveal an internal rift within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), as he voiced his discontent with the decision-making processes at the highest levels. He remarked that he had never feared Ofori-Atta, a sentiment that fueled his resolve to join other party MPs in advocating for the former minister’s ousting. “It was about putting the country first. Many of us saw the writing on the wall and felt that a change was necessary for the betterment of our economy,” he explained.
The Subin MP went on to suggest that while the President may have been hesitant to criticize his cousin publicly, it is evident that he is now re-evaluating that choice. “He cannot say it openly, but I believe deep down he realizes the impact of not listening to us back then,” Antwi remarked, hinting at a growing frustration within the party regarding leadership decisions.
