The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for Abuakwa North constituency Alhaji Opass has issued a stern warning to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), cautioning them against underestimating the NPP’s resolve.

Speaking on Nopras FM, Alhaji Opass declared, “We won’t be intimidated. The NDC should not think they are men above us.”

This bold statement comes amidst rising tensions between the two parties fighting over the majority seat in parliament

Recently, the Minority, which is the NDC, decided to take over the Majority’s seats, and things got chaotic, This move is seen as a response to Speaker Alban Bagbin’s ruling on October 17, where he declared four parliamentary seats vacant. This decision effectively reduced the NPP’s numbers, shifting the balance of power in favor of the NDC.

Alhaji Opass stated that the Speaker of Parliament has no right to interpret the law unless the Supreme Court does so. The speaker’s role is limited to facilitating parliamentary proceedings rather than making judicial decisions.

the speaker plays a crucial role in interpreting parliamentary rules and procedures. When it comes to interpreting laws, the Supreme Court is indeed the highest authority

According to Article 93(2) of the Ghanaian Constitution, the legislative power is vested in Parliament, but the Supreme Court has the final say on constitutional and legal matters

Alhaji Opass called on the NDC to respect the democratic process and await the outcome of the December 7 elections.

If the NDC truly desires change, they should wait until December 7 and allow the Ghanaians to decide, resorting to violence or disputes over parliamentary majority is unnecessary and undermines Ghana’s democratic institutions.

The December 7 elections will determine the rightful leaders of our country. Let us allow the electoral process to unfold peacefully and respectfully,”
